I worked as a counselor at the Multiple Sclerosis Association of King County in Seattle, Washington, until the agency closed in December 2008. While it is extremely important to be under the care of a medical professional, MS specialist, and/or neurologist, counseling can also help many individuals with MS manage the emotional, physical, and cognitive symptoms of this disease. Some individuals need support around the anger and frustration of being diagnosed with a chronic illness, while others need assistance around grieving and accepting their illness. I help individuals find constructive ways to reach this acceptance and teach a variety of coping strategies to manage the stress, anger, emotions, and pain.

Multiple Sclerosis Support Group
In addition to seeing individuals with MS for counseling, I facilitate a weekly support group for individuals newly diagnosed and coping with the symptoms of MS. The group offers individuals a chance to meet other individuals adjusting to life with this chronic illness. In addition, the group allows individuals to process the diagnosis and life changes in a supportive, close-knit environment.
